Emergency Shelter

We have a homeless shelter for those who are destitute and are without a roof over their heads.  This could be a single person, or even families.  We also help in domestic abuse situations.  We have rooms and a dormitory style room to house these people.  We provide clothing where needed and daily meals.  While a person is here at the mission they have to go to weekly meetings and are keep accountable in their pursuit of a job.

The Following are the rules for Roosevelt Mission's Emergency Shelter:

EMERGENCY SHELTER RULES

(1) The Roosevelt Mission is an emergency shelter for people who are destitute without money or a job. When coming in all items you bring in will be searched through for substances, weapons, and indecent material. Those items other than tobacco will be confiscated.

(2) We will provide you with a nice clean room with a bath, toiletries and three meals a day.

(3) We will not allow any drugs at all. Drugs include all illegal drugs, abuse of prescription drugs, alcohol. In the case of tobacco you may smoke during the day, outside. All tobacco products and paraphernalia must be checked in at closing time daily and can be checked out at morning.

(4) DO NOT put anything in the door or open the door, this is immediate grounds for expulsion

(5) We insist on cleanliness, you must shower daily, clean your own room and bathroom also keep your clothes clean. There is a washer, dryer, towels and personal care produces provided.

(5) You must be up, have your shower, and have all personal items stored away by 8:00am. If you don’t then those items can be thrown away. All clients must be up showered and downstairs by 8:00am. Breakfast must be finished with dishes washed and put away by 8:30am. Also you must have someone clean the bathroom once a week and inform the director when it is done.

(6) You will not be allowed to stay in your room during the day or be in the lobby till after supper. All emergency shelter rooms are locked at 8:00am. Inspection will be once a week.

(7) You will have to prepare your meals at Breakfast and Lunch. Dishes are to be washed and put away after every meal. Supper is prepared for you, and is served in the dinning room at 4:00 PM sharp. Dining room is off limits following dinner or at 5pm on Weekends.

(8) Check with the staff before leaving the building. We have to know your whereabouts at all times. The mission’s doors are locked at 4:00 P.M. You will not be able to get back in unless staff is on hands to let you in. You are not allowed off mission property after 4pm or after 12pm Saturday on weekends unless by prior approval by mission staff.

(9) No Visitors are allowed. This is either from outside the facility or visitors from within the facility being in your room. No food is allowed in lobby or upstairs. No pets are allowed.

(10) The lobby is open after supper and closes at 10:30pm except on youth nights when it closes at 6:30pm. No food or drink is allowed in the lobby, do not leave trash lying around in the lobby. A trash container is provided.

(11) You will volunteer to help with the cleaning, maintenance, and other duties.

(12) No swearing is allowed or obscene behavior is allowed.

(13) There is staff available upon request at all times. You must tell staff where you are going at all times. Communication is key. You must obey whatever the staff member tells you.

(14) Church of your choice attendance is highly recommended three times a week.

(15) During the day it is your job to either be looking for work or doing something that will increase your chances of finding work. You will be required to meet with the Chaplain once a week and to fill out a notebook given to you to record your activities that must be available for the viewing by any staff whenever asked.

*Certain additions or exemptions are made to the rules based upon situation (such as having a night job).
